Two New Running Playlists That Keep Me Going

running in the morning

Running is hard work, and especially in these past few weeks when I’ve been trying to get myself ready for a race this Saturday.  I went from sporadically running once a week to running three times a week in the past four weeks. Oh, the aching muscles.

There were several times there that I wanted to roll over and go back to sleep at 5:00am
or just skip the run altogether. 5:00am is early! And it’s dark!

My 6 Favorite Skin Care Products for Winter

Beauty products

Norwegian winters are tough. It’s dark, it’s dry and it’s cold. Did I mention that it’s cold?

And when I say cold, I mean -20 degrees Celsius (that’s -4 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s cold enough to freeze your spit before it even hits the ground!

For this Texas girl who’s used to humidity and sunny conditions, the dry winters are hard on the skin.  When I first came to Norway, I had a hard time trying to find the right products to combat the winter cold.

My 2016 New Year Resolutions

happy new year 2016

It’s 2016. And another year has just passed. Most people ring the new year in with joy and smiles, looking forward for the year that is to come filled with all of its wonderful surprises.

I, on the other hand, look at the new year with foreboding. Damn. Another year just means that I’m one year closer to…GULP…dare I say it? THE END. THE END as in I don’t breathe air, I don’t see the sky, I don’t exist anymore.

Now that I’ve signed myself up for Sentrumsløpet, I’m forced to start running again.  Oh, yeah. I feel the hurt coming on.

I might as well face it. I’m out of running shape. I’m hyperventilating just thinking about the interval training, hill training and sprints that I’ll have to do.

My lungs will reject the training. They will hurt. I’ll double over in pain trying to catch my breath. As a matter of fact, I won’t be able to catch my breath. I’ll see stars. I might keel over.

I already imagine that this little 10km run is much akin to climbing Mt. Everest. Gulp.

I Bow Down to the Mighty Norwegians

It’s inevitable. At any get-together, at any dinner party, at any type of gathering whatsoever, the talk always, I mean ALWAYS turns to sports. And I don’t mean sports like  “Oh, did you see the Rosenborg game?” or “Hey, I got tickets to the Stabekk game. Can’t wait to go.”

It goes more like this — “I ran a gazillion kilometers today. When I got home, I cleaned the house, baked 5 cakes, had a dinner party for 20 people and I still managed to get up at 8am looking all gorgeous.”

Or, “Yeah, I did Birkebeiner for skiing last year. I trained really hard, but I don’t know what happened.  I really struggled. I did 54 km in 3 hours. Damn. I was so disappointed in my time. It must have been the blizzard and the really bad snow conditions. I’m so disgusted with myself.”

WTF?
