My 6 Favorite Skin Care Products for Winter

Beauty products

Norwegian winters are tough. It’s dark, it’s dry and it’s cold. Did I mention that it’s cold?

And when I say cold, I mean -20 degrees Celsius (that’s -4 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s cold enough to freeze your spit before it even hits the ground!

For this Texas girl who’s used to humidity and sunny conditions, the dry winters are hard on the skin.  When I first came to Norway, I had a hard time trying to find the right products to combat the winter cold.

I naturally have dry skin anyway and the winter exacerbates the problem. There’s nothing like makeup settling in your dry, flaky skin to make you look older than your age.

After a lot of buying and trying of skin care products (and lots of money out the window), I’ve finally found a winning selection of go-to winter skincare products that I’m super pleased with:

1.  Bobbi brown cleansing oil

This is one of the best cleansing products I’ve come across. It dissolves makeup (even hard to get off waterproof mascara) and conditions the skin at the same time.

If you live in Oslo, you can get this at Steen & Strom. If not, you can always buy it online here.

2.  Aco Miniderm 20% krem

This is a miracle cream. I first bought this cream to use on Keira because it’s a non-allergenic cream made specifically for children, but also for those who have dry skin and problems such as psoriasis and atopic eczema.

I started to use this on my body and then for some crazy reason that I can’t remember, I started using it on my face. All I have to say is that I never leave home without this cream.

You can get this cream at any pharmacy (apotek) in Scandinavia. Read more about this product here.

3.  ACO special care intensive cream for dry feet

If you get really dry and cracked heels, this the product for you. It’s creamy, rich and moisturizing formula makes your feet and heels soft and sleek.  There are no perfumes or scents for those of you who are allergic to those kinds of things.

This fantastic foot cream can also be found in Scandinavian pharmacies.

4.  bobbi brown extra soothing balm

This is a dense and concentrated balm that you can use anywhere – face, lips and cuticles. Just run a dab between your fingertips and press it onto the area. It can be put on top of makeup to give you a soft glow. Read more about this product here.

5.  ZO skin health exfoliating polish

This has been a great addition to my Clairsonic Mia brush. While I use the Clairsonic brush every day to wash away impurities, I use the exfoliating polish a 2-3 times a week topolish away the old skin so that the new skin can come through. A lot of polishes can be rough on your skin, but this one seems to do the job superbly.

Just massage a smidgeon of this product onto your face with a little bit of water and it exfoliates your skin like a charm, leaving it feeling soft and supple.

You can get this product through your dermatologist or skincare professional.

6.  new find – extra bobbi brown lip tinT

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a Bobbi Brown fan. While I was back home, my favorite go-to makeup gal, Kandy Glass, in Austin, introduced this to me.

It goes on smooth and silky and helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around your lips over time.  It even adds a pretty pink stain to your lips while it’s doing it’s magic. This is not shown in the picture, but you can read more about this product here.

If you decide to try one of these products or even all, drop me a comment and let me know what you think. What are your favorite skin care products in the winter?
